It is the largest carrier of low cost in Europe. It currently has over 1100 routes and 44 bases. Over the years it has become the most profitable carrier in the world, due to cost reduction. Ryanair has been characterized by rapid and continuing expansion, especially after the deregulation of the airline industry in Europe in 1997. It operated a fleet of 74 planes Boeing 737 classics, which have been removed, and has signed contracts to receive 225 new Boeing 737-800 to 2010, plus options to purchase 193 additional aircraft. To date, Ryanair has 300 Boeing 737-800 "Next Generation" with a mean age of 3.6 years (March 2012).
