Various colourful characters are sprinkled through the stories of King Arthur. Some characters are:
Merlin
Merlin, Arthur's adviser, prophet and magician, is fundamentally the creation of Geoffrey of Monmouth, who in his twelfth-century History of the Kings of Britain blended the Welsh traditions about a bard and prophet.(Anderson, 2004).
Mordred
Mordred was Arthur's nephew, the son of Arthur's sister Mordred and Arthur Anna and her husband, Lot of Lothian. Geoffrey claims that, when Arthur was away on his Roman campaign, Mordred grabbed Guinevere and the throne.
