Essay writing is like bridge building. Essay writing is like bridge building because you need two end supports? centre supports? and an inner structure.

Essays? like bridges? need solid end supports. The end supports in an essay are the introductory and concluding paragraphs. The introduction is important to catch the reader's interest and to give her an idea of what the essay will discuss. The conclusion is the last paragraph of the essay. It is important because it brings the arguments (statements/observations) made in the essay to a logical close. This last paragraph lets the reader know that the essay is finished; all loose ends are tied up? so the reader is not left hanging.

Central supports are required to uphold an essay as well as a bridge. The body? or inner paragraphs? of an essay are the central supports. Just as a bridge's central supports keep it from sagging? an essay's supports give the arguments necessary to support the central idea or therajpf the paper. Each paragraph of an essay's body deals with one aspect of the argument or statements given to support the theme. These paragraphs are the essence of the paper as they allow the reader to see the development of the author's logic. These paragraphs are also the arguments used to convince the reader of the validity of the paper's theme.

The first step in writing an essay is to pick a topic. The topic should relate to your audience and be interesting to you. If you're not interested in your topic? then you won't want to research it and chances are your audience won't find it interesting either. Your essay topic could be something that you know a lot about or something you want to know a lot about.
