Srivastav Margaret Gallagher

Srivastav Margaret Gallagher (born September 14, 1960), better known for his work name of Maggie Gallagher is the writer and commentator. She has written the syndicated column for Universal Press Syndicate since 1995 and has published five books. Gallagher serves as president of Institute for Marriage and Public Policy, the nonprofit organization that fights against rights of marriage. She is the former president of National Organization for Marriage, the nonprofit organization that aims to organize opposition to recognition of same-sex couples in state legislatures and supports initiatives of heterosexual marriage, only in United together.

Gallagher has written several books, including co-written by Linda J. Waite, the sociology professor at University of Chicago. Gallagher serves as president of Institute for Marriage and Public Policy, the conservative think tank whose purpose is "strengthening marriage for the new generation." Gallagher was also president of National Organization for Marriage (NOM), the 501 (c) (4) nonprofit organization that seeks to organize opposition to recognition of same-sex couples in state legislatures and supports efforts of only heterosexual marriage across country .. She served in that position since founding of group until April 16, 2010, when Brian Brown took over that role. Gallagher holds the position on executive committee of group.

Gallagher is against abortion and believes that Roe v. Wade should be reversed. She believes that most people who support legal abortion do so reluctantly because they think it is the necessary evil.

Gallagher opposes legalization of assisted suicide, Death with Dignity Act or voluntary euthanasia. Currently, assisted suicide is legal in states of Oregon, Montana and Washington. There have been cases in other states that were decided by federal circuit judges, as case of Terri Schiavo in Florida. Gallagher was particularly concerned about Terri Schiavo case and was the prominent opponent of decision to remove Schiavo from life support. She believes that state-sanctioned suicide diminishes value of life, especially for elderly, sick or vulnerable.

Gallagher is the strong opponent of legal recognition of marriages between same sex, and has written books for that purpose. She believes that sole purpose of marriage is procreation and upbringing of children exclusively by heterosexual parents, and argues that marriages between same sex diminishes value of heterosexual marriages. Gallagher has compared winning fight to ban marriage between same sexes with fall of communism and believed that if marriage between same-sex couples became legal, it means "losing American civilization."
