Introduction
Purpose of the speech
In this paper we are analyzing Bill Gates' speech at CES, January 2007. Bill Gates delivered a very inspiring commencement speech On Sunday, January 7, 2007, regarding Windows Vista, which is the most important release of Windows ever, and this will make it easier, safer and more fun to use the PC. In conclusion we have talked about the launch of the new product, Windows Vista Operating System, and also gave subtle instruction from the most powerful man on the planet that the future belongs to the technologically savvy, primarily the younger video game generation. Gates showed this through his method of delivery and by appeals to ethos, pathos, and logos, as well as through a creative use of invention.
Literature Review
William Henry Gates, also known as Bill Gates, born on October 28, 1955, Bill Gates grew up in Seattle with his two sisters. Their father William H. Gates II is a Seattle solicitor. Their mother, Mary Gates, is a school teacher at the University of Washington, and chairwoman of United Way International. Gates was married on January 1st 1994, to Melinda French Gates. They have three children.
Bill Gates attended public elementary school and the private Lakeside School. There, he discovered his interest in software and programming computers at the age 13. In 1973, Bill Gates entered Harvard University as a freshman, where he lived in the hall from Steve Ballmer, whom now is Microsoft's chief executive officer. While at Harvard University Bill Gates developed a version of the programming language called BASIC for the first microcomputer. In 1975 Bill Gates left Harvard Univeristy to start his own business called “Microsoft with his childhood friend Paul Allen. He belief that the computer would be a valuable tool on every office desktop and in every home, they began developing software for personal computers.
In 2007 Bill Gates became chairman of Microsoft Corporation, the worldwide leader in software, services and solutions that help people and businesses. Microsoft revenues of $51.12 billion U.S. and employs more than 78,000 people in 105 countries.
In July 2008 Gates quite his CEO prosition from Microsoft and work as a chairman and an advisor on key development projects, he spend more time on his global health and education work at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
Under Bill Gates leadership, Microsoft's mission has been to continually advance and improve software technology, and to make it easier more cost-effective and more enjoyable for people to use computers. His company in 2007 invested approximately $7.1 billion on research and development.
In 1999, Gates wrote a book called “ Business at the Speed of Thought “. This book shows people how computer technology can solve business problems.
