Introduction

The purpose of this essay is to critically analyse the role of inter professional practice in contemporary social work. The first part of this essay will focus on understanding whether the presence of inter professional practice in social work is important or not and the second part will focus on presenting an examples that supports the evidence obtained in part one.

Discussion

According to the City University London (2012) inter professional practice is a working condition in which expert practitioners work together as a single team in an integrated task oriented way instead of opting for a parallel way with other disciples. This helps create a more flexible service and communities where there are complex needs and requirements. The NPHCP (2012) further provides that though inter professional practice provides a unique work environment where team members all learn from each other, and they share their work for the attainment of a common goal, in terms of inter professional practice there is a need for strong leadership and a sense of collaboration in order to make the team work together effectively. Trodd and Chivers (2011) provide a more detailed definition of inter professionalism they claim that the term implies towards the myriad ways in which professionals collaborate at various levels from strategic to the local practice between both the statutory and independent disciplines

Hammick et al (2009) state that when two or more professional work together and collaborate it gives rise to inter professional learning which arises when two or more professionals interact with each other and share their knowledge and education it helps spread knowledge and creates an environment aimed at learning simultaneously while achieving a common target. Learning and working is at times necessary in certain working conditions since it helps people learn about each other's work which ultimately improves the way an individual works. However it is important to add the point that being inter professional in any work environment is not always easy since it requires different service professionals to collaborate with each other, and each individual has its own professional culture, working methodologies and values being inter professional means learning to work with professionals with different working cultures and values an issue that can arise while undergoing inter professional practice is dealing with people with different education and training and merging together such a diverse workforce can at times become a hassle it is for this reason that for the purpose of effectively managing inter professional teams it is important to have strong leadership which can keep everyone together
