In the long and continuous journey of invention in the field of technology internet can be considered as the most remarkable and spectacular invention. The development and access to the internet in recent times has grown tremendously. Similarly, social networking is a new advent within the field of internet.

Networks are forms of social interaction, defined as a dynamic exchange between individuals, groups and institutions in situations of complexity. Internet social networking provides many advantages to business by promoting their products and services and it also provides advantages to the general people (Arthur, pp. 13).

Online social network sites like Face book and Twitter have gained considerable popularity over the past five years. These sites allow users to create online profiles, containing varying degrees of information, to share with friends (Denzin, pp. 33). In a manner similar to the dynamics of real world social interactions, as relationships change users can add and remove friends from their online social networks, creating an ever-changing network of connections (Currie, pp. 77). Due to the massive quantities of personal data people reveal in their online social network profiles, privacy concerns have grown in tandem with the growth of online social networks. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the pros and cons of the social networking.

Discussion

Social networking sites are a category of online community sites which incorporate three commonalities: profiles, friends, and comments. Intrinsically, social networking sites are based around profiles, which are a form of individual home page that provide a description of each member (Bradley, 2009). This description may include demographics (i.e. age, gender), but most often includes information of a more personal nature (i.e. pictures, personal blogs). MySpace is a social networking site that allows users to upload music, colorful backgrounds, or artwork as for personalizing profiles.
