Introduction

In social care profession people work in partnership with those people who are experiencing any disadvantages or have some special needs. Social care practitioner has to work with all the people no matter in what age bracket they come. For example with children, people having physical disabilities, with homeless people, with people who are drug dependent, community families, old age people and also includes immigrants (Bowlby 1988).

In social care profession effective communication skills is the most important component. In social care mostly informal interaction is done. Informal communication helps social care practitioners in coordinating with their subjects. In social care practice subject has to feel comfortable and have good trustworthy relationship with the practitioner and this can only be done with effective communication (Bowlby 1988).

Effective communication in Social Care Practices

In order to deal with diverse range of people by maintaining the limits of care services it is very important for social care professional to have effective communication. There are two types of circumstances in which interaction and communication is done. These two circumstances are one-to-one communication and group communication (Bowlby 1988).

One-To-One Communication

One-to-one communication occurs when an individual's writes or speaks to another person. One-to-one communication in social care practices occur when a person is facing many issues related to health and having personal problems. Example of one-to-one communication can be taken as doctor patient meeting. One-to-one communication also occurs when a friend, family member or any other person wants to receive personal care. Important thing that must be kept in mind for effective one-to-one communication is that both the parties must be relaxed and are willing to take any positive action by listening and talking to each other (Brandon 1999).

In order to do good effective communication a social care practitioner must be good in the follow things:

Starting one-to-one communication in a relaxed and friendly manner.

Must be focused on the goals and objectives of the interaction.

Communicator must end the session in a positive and supportive way (Brandon 1999).

The reason behind the importance of effective communication for social care professional is that they need to use range of interaction and communication skills for the following purposes:

Work inclusively with all people no matter them is from which background or of which age.

Give appropriate response to the problem of every individual.

Make people feel comfortable and secure so that they can talk openly.

Develop good and trustworthy relationship with people who are taking care services.

Different questions must be asked in order to gain appropriate personal and sensitive information.

Clear and accurate information regarding the problem must be gained.

Care related information must be given to others in a clear, competent and confident way.

If a person goes to social care professional so they try to take as much information from that person as possible. According to that information they try to understand the reason behind the problem and give guidance accordingly.
