The effects of the class sizes on students achievements within the class room setting

Introduction

Schools have multiple purposes for its existence. The most important purpose of schools is to provide quality education to its students. Quality education can only been given when the right knowledge is transferred to the students. One important point should be noted here that the knowledge can only be transferred, if teachers give equal and proper time to each student of the class. For this reason, the class size is considered an important factor for how much knowledge the students will gain. In recent decades the world has witnessed tremendous changes from the fantastic development of knowledge and its technological applications. As a result, society has become increasingly complex and competitive. Today, if someone wants to join it with the possibility of success is directly dependent on educational attainment and skills learned. In the globalization process, the possibilities and country are also provided by the educational level to reach the average of its components. In our country, the low educational level has become the main limiting factor for achieving an adequate quality of life and better income distribution. Our chances of development and depend not only on economic strategies have been designed, but primarily on the educational levels achieved by its people. Today we face a knowledge-based economy (McEwan, 2010).

Parents, who care about their children education, look for the schools where class size is small. When the class size is small, it builds the true relationship between the class teacher and student. The word favoritism does not come in practice when the size of the class is small. As each student gets proper individual attention, no teacher thinks of favoring any student. Class size should depend upon the teacher's capability of teaching. Even the setting of classroom effects the achievements of the students. The students, who are more obvious in the eyes of teachers, get more attention and hence get to gain more knowledge. This research carries the reasons of why the size of class effects the achievements of students.

After more than 20 years of research, the class size remains the main point in the political and educational agenda of schools, school districts, courts and schools. Since late 1970, research has indicated that the small class size (15 to 18 students) is associated with growth in student achievement in specific situations, particularly when small classes are implemented in the primary grades and students participate in small classes for more than a year. Then we have a snapshot of the significant findings of the investigation. Small classes in grades K-3 increases student achievement in reading and math. Students in small classes outperformed students in larger classes in reading and math test range. A class of 15-18 students is an upper bound for profit in small degrees. Classes with no more than 15-18 students found class size to be shown to ...
