The act of slavery is a demeaning social and cultural aspect of the human civilization. From the biblical times to the age of the mighty Pharaohs, from the industrial revolution to the modern world, slavery has remained and its vile practices and methods are still being practiced today in the modern world.

Slavery can be defined as the condition or the state of an individual or person over whom nearly all the powers and abilities relating to the right of ownership are exercised and committed. However the concept of slavery has shifted its focus in modern times, according to the modern concept, slavery is defined as simply as individual or group of people whose movements and mostly all of their activities are under the command of some other person. The individual has no freedom or human rights.

A slave is considered to be the person who cannot leave his respective owner, master, controller, overseer or employer without any explicit permission or order. A slave if strayed or escaped from the clutches of his employer or overseer is returned back to him if he is recaptured or brought back. He is even tortured and bodily harm may also be inflicted upon him. He may be hurt both by either physical or mental means. In today's environment and changing times, slavery is considered to be accomplished by means to specific tactics and strategies with local law enforcement agencies such as police or armed forces and several other states, federal or local authorities. These tactics are considered to be carried out by the slave's master or overseer who has some influence with the local authorities, due to their significant status as either land officials, top government officials, bearcats, or a rich and highly influential person.

According to historical records, slaves were often those of a different nationality, ethnicity, race or religion from those who individuals who in turn enslaved them, but in general such slaveries were short in nature. It has been relatively rare and highly improbable in history for an entire ethnic group or individuals of specific nationality to be held as slaves for more than a couple of generations. In most cases granting of liberty, intermarriage, right to buy one's own freedom, have caused slave and slave-owning populations to merge and become obscure all around the world.

Societies which are in fact characterized by issues such as population pressures, poverty, technological and cultural backwardness are frequently exporters of slaves to more developed nations and countries. Today most slaves are usually rural people who are forced to move to cities by influential people, or they are purchased in rural areas and sold into slavery in urban cities. These moves take place due to various reasons such as thefts of land, loss of subsistence agriculture, population increases and environmental factors.
