Should Same Sex Couples Be Allowed To Adopt

Introduction

It really shouldn't matter what type of relationship you are in, anyone should have the right to adopt. As long as the child is being taken care of, that should be all that matters.

It it's written in the constitution that everyone is created equal, everyone should be given the same rights. There are so many children out there in need of a good home that gay people should be allowed to adopt. There are no proven facts that gay parenting causes harm to children. Some states are finally recognizing that gay people can make great parents. Children can be harmed in any type of relationship. Everyone should have the right to have a family (Carole, 1-6).

With so many stereotypes around, it's no wonder so many people are against gay couples adopting. So many people believe that a child living with a gay couple will have low self-esteem. Some people believe that a child living with a gay couple will be picked on and bullied. If people would just give this a chance, it might turn out to be a great thing. Sometimes we just need to give things a chance before we stereotype them.

It has been proven that being a great parent is not influenced by sexuality. Most influential in being a great parent is providing a loving home. It hasn't been proven that children living with gay couples have low self-esteem. Children living with gay parents are given the same opportunity to succeed as children living with heterosexual parents. Everything being said about gay parenting is only people's opinion.

As long as there is no proof that gay couples are bad parents, they should be allowed to adopt (Davis, 21-63). If the children are given everything they need, this is what matters. The child's safety is important, not if the parents are gay. If everyone would stop stereotyping gays, they might realize that gay parents could be very great parents. So, is it truly fair to say that gay people cannot adopt?

Thousands of children in this country are without permanent homes. These children suffer for months, to years, within state foster care systems that lack qualified foster parents and are frequently challenged with other problems. Is it right to let these children suffer when there are suitable homes out there for them? 'We' decided, as a society, that these homes are not suitable because 'we' think it is wrong to be gay. A majority of the world believes that gay parents would hurt ...
