Daniel Shays (1747 - September 29 of 1825) was a captain in the War of Independence of the United States. It has been known for leading the Shays Rebellion of peasants against the state government of Massachusetts between 1786 and 1787, before the formation of the United States under one federal government (Lodge, 26).
