Introduction

Sexual orientation typically describes an individual's emotional and/or physical attraction to others with respect to sex or gender. Generally accepted to refer to an individual's exclusive attraction to men, women, or both, academic studies often reflect that sexual orientation is better represented as a dynamic continuum in which individuals may be attracted to a particular person in a given situation regardless of gender.

Sexual Preferences in our life

Change is inevitable in our lifetime. We will learn new ideas, meet new people, choose friends, and attend different schools, witness new inventions, and so forth. Every day change will occur in some instance. Sexual orientation is a person's potential for responding with sexual arousal to persons of the opposite sex, same sex, or both. Many families are made of different components. We have the “commercial” family of a mother, father, and children with grandparents. Family members may be an uncle or grandma as an immediate care taker of a child. Families may have step parents and/or step sisters and brothers. Now we are seeing same sex parents with children. A person's sexual preference may be impacted by the judgment, bias, and prejudice of others in today's society, because many frown upon the lifestyle.

Racism and Sexual Orientation

Once upon time racism, segregation, and hate towards blacks in America was a relevant issue nationwide. People were judged by the color of their skin and their lives were impacted tremendously by the thoughts and beliefs of others of less pigmented skin. Black people were frowned upon, limited in career paths, limited in rights, and worth in our society. Sexual orientation is means for discrimination in today's society. Kissing the same sex or living and loving the same sex isn't “normal” and what isn't normal is judged by others. Most people believe marriage is to be between a man and women. Reproduction takes instance naturally between a man and women, however, same sex couples exist and are growing in our society. These people to choose to live differently are judged, mistreated in various circumstances, frowned upon, and limited in rights when seeking marriage and/or union. There is much controversy as to whether same sex couples should be allowed to raise children.
