Sex Trafficking

Introduction

Exploitation is a central concept in the study of social oppression, especially from a Marxist perspective. It occurs when one group is able to take for itself what is produced by another group. Slavery, for example, is an exploitative system based on the slave owner's ownership of the slave and, hence, all that the slave produces. To Karl Marx, capitalism is also an exploitative system based not on ownership of the producers, as in slavery, but of machinery and other means of production.

The concept of exploitation can be extended to include noneconomic forms, such as the sexual exploitation of women by men under patriarchy. Men's authority as husbands, employers, and other authorities, for example, gives them a socially legitimate basis from which to coerce sexual compliance from women. In a larger sense, women's bodies and sexuality are exploited by capitalist advertising and mass media entertainment (Schloenhardt, 2009).

Sale of Women beings is furthermore one of the most atrocious crimes.
