Selection and use of PPEs

Abstract

In this research paper, there is a discussion about selection, and use of personal protective Equipments. This paper presents different types of personal protective equipments considering industrial hygiene. There is also a discussion about risks and hazards due to several factors at work places and industries.

Selection and use of PPEs

Introduction

It is essential; to identify risks at early stages or it will create hazards. Because of these hazards many people die each year. There are potential hazards, using these equipments so, it is used with safety, otherwise; risks will create hazards which will be unbearable. When there are any emergency take proper safety steps to handle it. If there is a leakage in gas supply line then, isolation of gas supplies is essential by closing gas valves. There should be proper isolation of ignition materials such as distinguishing flames and workplace should be evacuated.

Risk Assessment

Risk assessment is mandatory in order to avoid any hazard in future. Risk assessment should be planned by supervisors and Engineers, supervising the labor in workshop. It also includes permit to work. Supervisors are responsible for the safe handling of all the welding equipments and usage of these equipments with safety. Industrial hygiene is mandatory for workers because it helps workers to investigate and evaluate health hazards. Experience and history proved that by following the safety rules workplaces and industries had become safer than before. There are several problems and risks because of the presence of exposed chemicals and toxic solutions. These chemicals are hazardous to human health as they can cause cancer, weakens the brain and nervous system, lung functions, immune system and hormonal systems of the body. There are also other problems because of the improper measurements of workers. The safety standards are well defined by OSHA in each industry to follow in order to maintain safety and industrial hygiene.

If there is any sustained backfire in the pipe line then, oxygen valve of the blow pipe should be closed first. After oxygen valve, fuel valve should be closed. If necessary follow the shutting down procedure. The fault should be investigated and rectified at first. Blow pipe can be re lighted again unless it is cooled.

Each gas such as acetylene and oxygen is supplied from the gas cylinders. Gas is supplied from the gas cylinder through the gas hose to the blow pipe. Fuel and oxidant gases are mixed here and may be the source of combustion. The gas supply should be regularly monitored in order to avoid hazards of combustion and fire. There is safety devices used for monitoring the gas supply line. There is no need to take gas cylinders into the confined space unless any emergency occurred. If there are conditions to take cylinders, with the workers then keep it to the minimum. Cylinders should also be monitored to see gas leakage, and it should be removed ...
