Introduction

School culture plays a very crucial role in the nurturing of the children. Schools need to maintain a positive culture in their system, in order to help the society by providing a bunch of qualified as well as socially responsible individuals. A positive and good culture is the sign of the school being among the top schools of the state. It is considered as the foundation of individuals to groom themselves, and to learn about what is right and what is wrong, and then to follow the right path.

The culture depends on the norms, beliefs, values, rituals, and traditions, which takes a lot of time to be built. Culture also describes a person how he or she should behave on various situations. Schools use the culture by following a set of understood assumptions and expectations, which also involves following certain activities. These activities are set as the guiding principles for all the members of schools, to maintain a good environment in the school (Brucato, 2005).

School culture is also given much importance because it provides the success path to their students. All the schools must be supported in this regard, through having the access of all such resources which help them in developing a better and positive culture in the schooling system. However, they must remain responsible in maintaining the good culture in their schools by monitoring the culture on regular basis. This includes the controlling of cultures across all the stake holders which are directly or indirectly associated with the school and children.

This is not just the responsibility of schools to provide a positive culture to the children; parents are also equally responsible for this. They also need to provide a good learning environment to their children, so that it assists the schools to further enhance their good culture policy. By school, it means that all the teachers, management, and staff members must play their individual roles in order to help provide a positive culture to the children.

Assessing School Culture

There are numerous occasions where decisions have been made against the schools which do not possess a good culture. These schools have either faced the consequences of closing out or renovations and expansions. There is a need for the evaluators to step up and take responsibility of the culture of schools. They need to assess the school cultures on periodic basis. First and foremost action is that, there are several principles that need to be followed in order to assess the culture. These principles are the fundamental part to help assess the development of schools and their culture. These principles involve: stimulating environment, places for group learning, linking indoor and outdoor places, public space, safety, spatial variety, changing displays, resource availability, flexibility, active/passive places, personalized space, and the learning environment (Deal, and.Peterson, 2010).
