Response to Intervention (RTI)

Response to RTI is a general education program formalized to meet the requirements of the children who suffer from lack of learning abilities in their primary education level.

It stands upon a model for problem solving and the use of information for effective decision making to help children learn better. A team of professionals is responsible for designing, implementing, assessing and monitoring the efficiency of these intervention plans. RTI is an alternate intervention model that determines the presence of any learning disability among children.



Why implement RTI Model?

The RTI model is a tool that determines the need within a student for help and assistance with his learning process. This model becomes necessary when a specific area becomes apparent for educators to intervene between the student's performance level and his response to the instructions and educational interventions. Early interventions identify as a success for a student's career growth and learning efficiency. RTI makes sure these early interventions demonstrate a practically effective manner to be helpful for children of different cognitive levels.

Utilizing RTI Model

Tier I: Screening and Group Interventions

Students with higher risk of learning deficiency undergo screening through tests conducted state or district wide that includes a progress monitoring of all students within a specific time period not more than eight weeks. The identified children receive supplementary learning materials and exercises as an intervention for their learning disability. Curriculum designing keeping in mind the children's learning capacity and the ability to penetrate instructions.

Tier II: Targeted Interventions

This tier deals with students with much difficulty than the tier I students. Their need of intervention is more critical with extra efforts of targeted services with additional activities other than the regular curriculum. Making Targeted or small groups of students a part of these interventions and exercising them for a longer period of time.

Tier III: Intensive Intervention and Evaluation

Individual attention and care are given to students who are categorized under tier III as their deficiency is of a much crucial stager than the students of tier I and tier II. Students who are unable to respond well to the interventions in tier II are eligible for the interventions mentioned by Individuals with Disability Education Act (IDEA).
