Abstract

Roman Empire has been the topic of the debate ever since it decline or breaking. This paper is an attempt to analyze the reason, which led to, rise and the fall of such a vast empire. Like the Rise, the decline too did not happen over a night. Both the Processes took the time to complete their cycle.

Rise and Decline of the Roman Empire

Introduction

Roman Empire was dictated by or it adopted the autocratic form of government which was expanded over a huge area covering the territory from places in Europe and stretching itself to the Mediterranean Sea. Roman Republic which heralds the empire was slowly and duly weakened by the successive wars, however, there are others strings attached to it, which also served as the source which led o the decline of the Empire. Though some of the major events which history holds responsible in the decline f the Republic include the installation of the Julius Caesar as the dictator, Battle of Actium and the Roman Senate act of surrendering to Octavian (Lafferty, 2010). However, the concept of Roman Empire is not new; rather it draws its roots from times of the Republic, which preceded the Roman Empire. The era which saw the real roman expansions are marked under the rule of the great emperor, history also refers him as Trajan (www.unrv.com). Under his rule, which marked the, period from 98 to 117 AD, this period is seen as the golden period in the history of the Roman Empire.

Under his belt Roman Empire saw the expansion which stretched the empire to the area of 6.5 million Kilometers; however, it should not be forgotten that this area doesn't consist of the sea but was purely land surface (Frank,1901).The empire was widely extended, therefore, it the empire inculcated the rich traditions of every other area in itself. All these traditions after a certain point of time began to reflect on the institutions of the Roman Empire and started influencing the Roman Culture itself. Traditions of each area, when united under the banner of the Roman Empire, began to influence the area's which included Religion, law, philosophy and many other pillars of the Roman Empire (Frank,1901).However, the change in customs which this period saw did not restrict itself, within the empire but expanded beyond borders, initiating from Europe and spreading to the whole wide world, laying the foundations of the Roman Empire.

However, the status, which Roman Empire, achieved was based on some factors which enabled the empire to spread over a vast area. Empire saw the success because it was laid on pillars which were very well crafted and thought out; primary to this reason the empire achieved the status which only few have ever seen in the history of mankind.
