Introduction

In world, there are many mysterious stories. Some of them are extremely scary that are remembered since years and have horrendous impacts. Likewise, the story of Richard Trenton Chase is marked in the history since years.

Chase has been nicknamed by the media and popular true crime books the “Vampire of Sacramento” this is due to the fact that Chase felt that he needed to ingest blood (both human and animal) to keep himself from dying. While Chase never identified himself as being a member of the vampire community, in the end this doesn't matter. Simply due to the fact that he had ingested the blood of his victims (for whatever reason) he will be identified as a member of the vampire community.

The other reason this case is being highlighted here is the fact that Chase was the archetype of the “disorganized” serial killer. He was suffering from some form of mental illness and he made no effort to clean up the crime scene or dispose of the body's of his victims. Due to the disorganized nature of his crimes he was caught relatively quickly after he began killing. The essay will emphasize the curious and outlandish aspects about his life; his killing acts and his chase that how he has been caught. The life of Richard Trenton was a menace because of his family breakdown.

Early Life of Richard Trenton

One of the popular theories explains that serial killers grow up “different” from the rest of us; they engage in animal cruelty, start fires, have few if any close friends in childhood, and due to this they retreat into a world of fantasy. The childhood of Richard Trenton Chase is an almost textbook example of a child that grows up to become a serial killer. Chase had suffered from an undiagnosed mental disorder for some time. He was able to control, or keep in check, his most bizarre behavior while living with his family. It should be noted here that Mrs. Chase had been seeing several psychologist since he was 12 and there were family problem including financial issues, physical and emotional abuse, and an unstable mother psychologically (Storey, Strieter, Tarr, & Thornton, n.d.).

Richard Trenton Chase was born on May 23, 1950 and died in December 26, 1980. His parents got divorced at his early age. He then got the victim of abuse by his mother. As a result, he had suffered from the Macdonald triad that include the animal cruelty, fire setting, bedwetting, enuresis (involuntary discharge of urine, especially while asleep), pyromania (the uncontrollable urge to set fire to things) and zoosadism. He became the drug abuser; including marijuana and LSD and alcoholic in his childhood. Thus, due to the cruel attitude by his mother, he was turned into a rebellious child. He also suffered from erectile dysfunction due to "psychological problems stemming from repressed anger". (www. investigation.discovery.com)
