The article, "On Teenagers And Tattoos," written by Dr. Andrew Martin, is an expository review of the motivation, the importance and role of tattooing for adolescents. Dr. Martin explains that by understanding the reasons or motivations behind the tattoos, adults and parents can better understand and meet their children. The audience that Martin is trying to address not only families who disagree with their teens with tattoos, but also dedicated to adults who tend to frown on people who have tattoos. In this text, Martin refers to the growing trend of tattoos, and why our young people is becoming a more permanent form of expression (Andres Martin, 2000).

The aim of this paper is to inform adults of the diverse motivations of tattoos teens to reduce the assumptions that many adults. For example, the text explains that while teenagers see tattoos as "personal and beautification of the states," parents associate tattoos with "insults enraging the opposition and its authority." Martin explains that in most cases this is not the case, and if parents just show interest and the "recognition without prejudice" to tattoos teen, who would be able to communicate and connect with their teens tattooed. Martin is trying to explain that if you see the tattoo with an open mind, then perhaps we can have a better understanding of why this is a growing epidemic in the community for teens.

The style and format in which Dr. Martin wrote really gives the reader a better understanding of the text. Martin's use of the three persuasive appeals (logos, pathos and ethos) is the ratio of strength of the arguments. The combination of credibility, the individual stories (emotional appeal), and the reason to create an effective argument which clearly portrays his purpose. In each section, Martin makes sure to include sufficient evidence supporting its claim to be able to get the reader emotionally and mentally involved in the text. He does most of his research and incorporates various forms of the facts to make your writing more believable (Andres Martin, 2000).

Martin begins this article by saying the rise in tattoos and piercings among young adults. From his research concluded that those who are part of this increase are usually over 18 years. It seems as if many teenagers are failing to see the negative impact that tattoos may show when it comes to finding a place in the workforce. He then begins to explain their reasoning of why teenagers are turning to tattoos, addressing three issues of food. His reasons for the growing popularity of tattoos are identity-seeking adolescents, showing ownership of your body, and the search for permanence. In each section, Martin further explains each topic and provides examples and interviews, even (Andres Martin, 2000).
