ABSTRACT
In this research proposal, the aim of this research study is to find out the role of the Respiratory Nurse Specialist and the problems that exist in the respiratory ward of Irish hospitals. Three companies will be selected for analyzing and discussing about their respiratory wards and the issues exist there. Mixed methodology will going to be used by researcher in which interviews will be conducted and questionnaire will be filled. The researcher expects that the result will reveal the issues that exist in the respiratory wards of the selected Irish hospitals.

CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION AND LITERATURE REVIEW
Latest research shows that respiratory problems are increasing rapidly through out the world. The hospitals are now more concentrating on curing the respiratory diseases by providing the best therapeutics to their patients (Berman 2008, 90). In Ireland, the numbers of the patients suffering from the respiratory diseases are increasing significantly and is making difficult for Irish hospitals to manage and cope up this within their limited infrastructure and facilities (Dantzker 2005, 77). The limitations and facilities provided by Irish hospitals to respiratory patients in their respiratory wards will be analyzed and discussed in detail in the research study.
Background of the study
Irish Hospitals
Overall the quality of respiratory wards and other services of the Irish hospital are not up to the mark (Reidy 2009, 160). Most of the cases reported in emergency services of the Irish public hospitals (private hospitals are not having this facility) are of serious congestion problems. Patients have to wait for hours for consultation and treatments. Hospitals have lack of infrastructure, environmental problems, and shortage of staff (Reidy 2009, 160). Due to shortage of staff and inexperienced doctors these hospitals are focusing on hiring the retired doctors.
Respiratory Ward of Irish Hospitals In the Irish hospitals' respiratory wards, special treatment is being provided to those patients who are suffering from respiratory diseases, these diseases include:
Cystic fibrosis;
Asthma;
Lungs cancer;
Tuberculosis;
Respiratory failure;
Sleep apnoea;
Pleural disease; and
On-going management of post lung-transplant patients (Reidy 2009, 160).
In these respiratory wards the thoracic procedure suite is provided to the patients who are suffering from various respiratory diseases (MacIntyre 2005, 80). The thoracic procedure suite is responsible for handling the diagnostic process and treatments like bronchoscopes, pleural aspirations, biopsies, and ...
