Evaluation of a Residential Treatment Center for Emotionally Disturbed Adolescents

The Introduction

Residential treatment centers are alternatives to hospitalization for the psychologically disturbed people. These residential treatment center (RTC), sometimes called a rehab, is a live-in health care facility providing therapy for substance abuse, mental illness, or other behavioral problems. Residential treatment should, in many cases, be considered the "last-ditch" approach to helping a child with severe problems These centers are used for the treatment of youngsters who usually live chaotic lives. It offers an enlightening, fostering, and curative surrounding. According to Adams (1980), the students who completed their course at the residential treatment center scored much better to those who dropped out before completion. These young girls easily adjusted to their societies after being discharged by the centre.

The study focus on the residential treatment center for emotionally disturbed young females and comparison of the behavioral changes as a measure of impartiality tests given and by other tools, such as questionnaires which were distributed few months after their discharge to the previous residents. For this purpose, two hypotheses were developed which were based on the assumption that “the girls would be successful in blending into their communities”; while the other hypothesis was based on “the demonstration of the quantifiable progress in their score”. These hypotheses are conducted through questionnaires and personality tests at the time of their admittance and discharge (Adam, D.B. 1980).

The strength or weakness of the literature review

The previous studies regarding this issue consist of a lot of information and were highly credible; but not directly relevant to the unique nature of this research. The studies must have helped in understanding the methodology used for evaluation. The purpose of this research was extremely specific, oriented towards the evaluation of the residential treatment centre of the Emotionally Disturbed Adolescent girls, which cannot be directly related to many studies in the field of psychology or sociology.

An important advantage of a residential treatment center is that the environment may be less threatening ...
