The main aim of criminological research is to gather data and information related to crime. It is mostly conducted to support and promote good practice and to prevent crimes from the society. It helps in identifying issues that are faced by people. Criminological research plays a significant role in the development of a society as it determines the extent of crime and helps in finding out effective measures for the prevention of crime.

Criminology research is basically a scientific study of the causes, nature, control and extent of criminal behavior from both the perspectives of society and individual. Criminology is considered as an interdisciplinary area of the behavioral sciences, which is specifically drawn upon the research of law, psychologists, sociologists, social anthropologists and psychiatrists. The aspects that are included in the research of criminology are the incidence, causes, consequences and forms of crime, and also the governmental and social reaction and regulations to crime.

Criminological research has always been observed to be a subject of high political interest by generating controversy and topical debate. If criminological research is considered to be very significant by academic, popular, policy and practitioners audiences, then it is important for the research to be ethical, valid, rigorous, relevant and effective. In order to conduct a criminological research, one of the easiest ways is to point out the questions that are poorly formulated (Bloo, Frankland, Thomas, and Robson, 2001, pp.110-120).

Conceptualization is the process which is used to specify the actual meaning of any term.
