Research Proposal on Developing a Prototype for an RHIT Exam Preparation Tool
Abstract
The research proposal aims at developing a prototype exam preparation tool to improve the pass rate of those, attempting the Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) credential exam. During 2009-2011, the Commission on Certification for Health Informatics and Information Management (CCHIIM) reported the average pass rate for first time candidates who sat for the RHIT credential was 76.8%. That equates to almost 1 out of every 4 candidates failing the exam. The pass rate for candidates has declined from 82.7% in 2009 to 71.3% in 2011. For second time test takers the pass rate is 33%. The problem was defined and relevant information was reviewed in the literature. Current exam preparation practices and problems were evaluated. The RHIT exam preparation tool can help the 28.7% first timers and especially 67% re-takers who failed in 2011. This tool clarifies the revision process, based upon the results of self-assessment activities. It will be built for use on the iPhone via the Apple platform. The RHIT exam preparation application will prepare candidates through the consistent practice of taking multiple-choice questions in the specific domains included in the RHIT exam. It features more than 1000 questions and they will receive feedback showing the users their strong and weak domains. Since it will be part of their mobile device, they can practice anywhere. Included will be proven tips designed to make the test day less stressful. The application will ease the fears faced by HIM graduates by instilling confidence in a candidate's knowledge and increasing the likelihood of earning the RHIT credential on their first attempt.Developing a Prototype for an RHIT Exam Preparation Tool
Introduction
Over the time, science has evolved in several domains, including advancement in technologies. Technologies have advanced at an accelerated rate during the last century. Continuous progressions of technologies have led to changing the world. IPhone is the multimedia and internet enabled smart phone device, containing all features of a mobile phone and tablet PC. IPhone technology transformed the mobile computing world overnight. This proposal aims at developing a prototype for an RHIT exam preparation tool, which is built for use on the IPhone.
Problem Statement
In order to increase the passing rate of candidates appearing to take the Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) credential exam, we need to develop an efficient and effective tool to help and guide preparation of the RHIT Exam. The average passing rate, of candidates appearing for the first time to take RHIT, was reported as 76.8%. This rate shows that the ratio of candidates failing the RHIT exam is 1 out of 4. The passing rate, of candidates taking the RHIT exam, has been declining constantly. Research shows that the passing rate, of RHIT exam, in 2011 decreased from 82.7% in 2009 to 71.3%. Also, the passing rate for candidates attempting RHIT, the second time is very low, which is 33%. Therefore, we need to develop an exam preparing tool in order to assess and minimize the weak areas of ...
