Research Scenario for Quantitative Research Paradigm
Hospitality industry of United Kingdom contributes a large share in the GDP of the country. United Kingdom is currently the house of nearly 40000 hospitality business and according to BHA (2010) the country's tourism industry is boosted because of its dynamic hospitality industry. The industry is expected to grow rapidly as United Kingdom will host the 2012 Olympics event. Thus, it is necessary for researchers to carry out research assessing the impacts of the London Olympics 2012 on the hospitality industry.
The subject for the study will help in determining or forecasting the impacts of the mega event likely to occur because of London Olympics 2012 on the hospitality industry, by analyzing the present situation of the hospitality industry. The topic is of much importance as the predicted change in accordance with the present situation will help all the stake holders to make necessary improvement to get the maximum benefits from Olympics 2012.
Research Question
In connection to the above scenario, following research questions have been formulated:
What are the impacts of mega sporting events on the hospitality industry?
Is the current condition of the hospitality industry is adequate or not to support such mega sporting event?
What changes would London Olympics 2012 bring on the hospitality industry?
What financial benefits hospitality industry would receive from the event?
What areas of the hospitality industry need improvement to cater the event?
Role of the Researcher
In quantitative research technique the role of a researcher is crucial, as the quantitative technique is applied when researcher is intended to measure the collected data statistically. A researcher has to closely examine every factor which increase the role of the researcher because using mathematical techniques for data analysis demand intuitive skills.
Possible Variation in Variables of Research
The independent variable in this research is London Olympics 2012 and the dependent variable of the study hospitality industry. The study does not have many variables, thus no significant variation can be made between variables of this research.
Methods of Data Collection
The interviews followed the format of unstructured pattern. In this connection, interviewee was asked a number of questions to address the research questions proposed under the research study. Before, conducting the interviews researcher will take the appointment and reach the destination himself before the time to avoid any inconvenience. As far as the process of taking interviews is concerned, the researcher will recorded all the interviews with the help of tape recorder besides taking notes on writing pad for the purpose of generating more sophisticated and significant results (Saunders, Lewis, & Thornhill, 2007).
There are two basic methods used in collecting required data including primary and secondary research. In this connection, primary research refers to cultivating first-hand knowledge (Easterby-Smith et al, 1991) with the help of survey, interview, ethnography and participant observation etc while secondary research deals with the already published material (Saunder et al, 2007).
This research will provide some new findings about the topic. We did not have developed hypothesis to verify only, so the study would be based ...
