Introduction

The article under review is “Impact of workplace connectivity on office productivity”, published in Journal of Corporate Real Estate.

Discussion and Analysis

The approach based on quantitative evidence and taken in the work of Haynes is a pleasure for a scientist to read. In recent years, he published an impressive amount of work on productivity. Haynes purpose is to establish a segmentation of the occupants of office (making a distinction between different working models) based on perceived differences in productivity compared to the physical environment and behavior (Whitely, 1995, 1419).

On the key issue for corporate real estate managers: What is the contribution of workplace productivity, we find our first problem definitions. The term "productivity" originated in the economy. More refined labor productivity or total factor productivity. The calculation of the ratios - used as indicators for economic growth - requires numerous measurements of inputs and outputs. Since researchers often do not have office access to these data that the calculated ratio replaced by "self-assessment skills." As there is no clear difference between the two interpretations, provides a potential source of confusion when people with these funds from discussing productivity. And what makes people human resources when the word "productivity" is mentioned?

A second problem comes from the methodology applied. Asking respondents about their views on "the workplace as a resource for productivity" and points to the attention of the respondent at the workplace. A more open question "what contributes to productivity" could point a wider range of important indicators, most related to the field of human resources, compensation, job content and social settings, including relationships with colleagues and management (Ward, 2000, 66).

Haynes uses segmentation was developed by Laing, originally designed with a focus on the provision of segmentation for developers and architects in the office, not for human resource managers. Segmentation and components described office productivity used in the paper has no background in designing human resources office. Although the questionnaire is not described in detail assuming that was developed for research purposes CRE, and not for resource assessment and its contribution to competitive advantage and productivity growth of the organization and development.

The term connectivity is interesting but not very well defined. Is it the sense of employees belongs to the organization? The alignment model seems interesting at first sight, but the sense of block arrows pointing in opposite directions is not clear. This model is not discussed in the context of the relationship between human resources and the CRE, as this would require a study in itself. Some additional considerations he would have been useful to enable a better understanding of what problems and issues CRE and HR managers face and provide a starting point for integration (WP) (Becker, 2001, 89).

Discussion of results

This discussion of the results is to use the four components previously derived, and new endpoints. The components are used as the basis of analysis, is in the context of four different working patterns, individual process, group process, the study focused and ...
