Reflection

Social ethics is defined is a wide branch of philosophy which is related to the good and bad conduct of a person in his life. These are the moral principles or values of conduct governing an individual or a group. A person ethics is defined by the principles or values and understanding of the society around them and by what society deems expectable.

Ethical Development in Life

Ethical development starts when a person is young and learns what they can and cannot do by their parents and the parent's social groups. This is where I learned that one should act accordingly; honesty, responsible for one-self, respect one-self and others, loyalty to family, friends, and to ones society, open-minded, and fairness. Each of these ethics work together and/or tempered in order to understand what is happening around us. Each has a define set of criteria that we use to evaluate each situation at hand. Are we dishonest if we hold back information or by holding back are avoiding hearting another person feels or avoiding conflict that may lead to violence. Does one ethic group outweigh or over ride another? How do we handle conflict within our own ethical principles or values? Each of these questions needs to be answered separately as each situation arises (Derrida, 1995).

Ethical Influences on Human Life

Several influences govern how I develop personal values. Each is unique or over-lap in how one defines what is ethical or not. The primary influence is based on the ethical behavior that one must adhere to when holding a government security clearance. In order to hold a security clearance, certain level of ethical behavior is define and must be followed in order to maintain the security clearance. The second influence is the from the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) which defines ethics that must be followed in order to receive or maintain certification. Third influence is family and friends which plays a large role in developing one ethical standards, and finally social groups or events that one belongs to or attends. Each have their own influences that effect how one develops there ethical standards throughout their lifetime (Anderson, 2010).

List of Ethical Values

Each of the values list below occur daily and other may over-lap as I perform my job. The key is to keep an open-mind as I may not have the best understanding of an situation and others may have valuable input that may change how one reacts to it.

Honesty - I expresses my-selves about a subject with adherence to the opinion or understanding of the facts.

Responsible for one-self - I perform to the best of my ability and when mistakes happen, admit to them regardless of what the repercussion may be.

Respect one-self - I adhere to my ethical principals as perform May tasks.

Respect others- I value opinions from others, and conducting oneself without offending others within the workplace.

Loyalty - Supporting my team or company even when their decision differs from my own opinion (Moss, ...
