Reflecting On Community Nursing Roles and Underpinning Theory

What community nursing is and why each of these roles are considered community nursing?

Nursing is a dynamic profession and practice of this occupation is in constant change, is based care to the healthy or ill, the family and the community as a biopsychosocial, which involves the relationship of scientific knowledge and practice. Since the introduction of nursing care has become more sensitive to the application of human needs in the field of health care and has more creativity in meeting these needs and more objectivity in the analysis of their efforts and career goals. Traditionally considered to nurses as having valuable qualities include respect for the human being, sensitivity, responsibility, honesty, courtesy, based on the determination of a bank of potential human values that can conform the model of the human profile that characterize this personnel, according to the real scenario of the society (Corbett, 2009). The community nurse specifically to help individuals, families and communities to acquire skills, habits and behaviors that promote their self-care in the context of primary health care (PHC), which includes promotion, protection, recovery and rehabilitation of health, in addition to prevention of disease (Leininger, 2002). The term of community health nursing was established recently and is considered a scholarly discipline of service whose purpose is to contribute individually and collectively to promote optimal functional level of the user or customer by teaching and caregiving (Micheal, 2011).

Community nursing, as the name implies, deals with issues related to health in the community. Thus, it is much more comprehensive than the individual and nursing involving benefits to a wider population group (Micheal, 2011). When we talk about community nursing then we refer to the work that health professionals do to ensure that, for example, certain diseases and viruses do not spread in the community, that the hygiene of living areas is maintained, within the family health private space is always assured, and so on (Price, 2004). Moreover, the reason for considering each of these roles as being community nursing is primarily based on the fact that each of these roles is somehow or the other related to or deals with providing nursing services for a particular community, in order to increase the health of that particular community (Price, 2004). Flying nurses are nurses that are dealing with providing medical services to aircraft passengers needing emergency treatment. Furthermore, the mines site nurses play the critical role of providing medical services and treatment to individuals working at mine sites, in case there is an emergency situation or there is a need of such services by an individual working at a mine site nurse. Mroeover, drug and alcohol nurses are responsible for dealing with and providing treatment to individuals that are suffereing with problems related to drug and alcohol addiction.
