Reconstruction is the term for the period after the Civil War, from 1865 until 1877, when the U.S. government is trying to rebuild lives and property of people in the South. Africans who have served for 246 years, slavery went from slavery to be optimistic. The goal of reconstruction is to create a new southern spirit, born out of patriotism and common goals (Du Bois, 1996).
