Classical realism and Neo-realism

Introduction

Political realism had dominated thinking in the 30s. It is a school with bases philosophical as old as Thucydides, Machiavelli, and Hobbes, who illustrated firsthand realistic language. It perceives the state as a supreme entity and valuable relevance. However, this concept also exists variability that allows to explain the interest of equal importance, since the classical realism also objects to the immutability of the state itself as a product of history, and assumes that this entity over time will also change, but keep protection of the interest of this new organization, which reinforces the importance of the national interest. The society and politics are governed by objective laws, based on their own human nature. These laws are objective, so let the good life of society, and not coerce man to resist. Then he is looking for a theory that seeks to represent those laws, and it uses two elements: evidence and reason. In the sense of realism, this is to collate the facts and seek the meaning using reason. The reaffirmation of this thesis in practical words is to place ourselves in the position of a statesman who faces a foreign policy problem, seek alternatives and assume, rationally, what will be the choice that the statesman will do. The proof of this hypothesis of rational type with the confrontation with the facts is what theoretically gives the facts of international politics. It is approaching reality from a rational scheme.

The driver necessary element between reason and facts, which is why we understand the facts, the interest is defined in terms of power. This is the main indicator of international politics. This allows a delimitation of the political that would think that a statesman thinks and acts under the defined interest, as the accretion of power. To this extent we must think about how the interest as defined in the same way the statesman thinks so we can get to understand the actions of the same. Realism refers to the motivations of the statesman and his ideological leanings are useless to study international politics. It assumes that good intentions do not justify either morally or politically satisfying policies. In addition not only to consider the interest defined its key concept, not coated with an established meaning forever. The interest rate that determines political action depends on the political and cultural context. The identification of the international system, allows us to observe the relationships between entities and the concept of national interest. Classical realism assumes that the world is organized politically Nations, and thus national interest is the key, and this arises the national state. The world is full of nations competing with each other and is fighting for power, and all the foreign policies of all nations referenced survival, and then there arises the pattern of the state to protect the physical, political, and cultural front constant threat to all other nations.
