Racism, theory based on the prejudice that there are human races that have biological differences that justify dominance relationships among them, as well as rejection or bullying behaviors. The term `racism applies to this doctrine as inspired by her behavior and is often associated with xenophobia and social segregation, which are its most obvious.
A human race is a subdivision of the species human species called Homo sapiens. The concept of human race is an attempt to apply to the species Homo sapiens from the concept of race, a term that defines the sub-groups of species domesticated reign of animal. It can be said as natural grouping of human beings, living or fossil, presenting a set of common hereditary physical characteristics, regardless of their nationality and language.
The principal founding elements of racism, which emerged during the period of colonization, are aware of the cultural identity of each people, the introduction of hierarchy in these cultures and, consequently, the establishment of dominance relationships among these peoples. The claim of superiority of some civilizations over others, are added in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, theories which treat this hierarchy to a natural determination based on the concept of race. Generally, this feeling of superiority is accompanied by the belief that other races are unsafe. It becomes a social group in charge of economic and political crisis, and is accused of being a troublemaker. (Bonilla-Silva, Eduardo. 2003, pp. 151)
Causes and effects of racism
The causes of racism in humans is a complex issue that can not be analyzed in a linear or isolated. The human being is the product of an evolution that has allowed him to adapt to the environment and develop superior capabilities without losing their animal status. An important part of the brain kept alive in us the primitive and automatic response of the survival instinct of the type "attacks or flight" (if you're going to eat, then run it because you will eat). The defense of the couple, family, the herd and fear are the different natural reflexes are recorded in our genetic code and our animal origin.
Evolution is not a simple process and always reaches the same result. It is not, nor is it to be, consistent with a hypothesis, but with one guiding principle: the survival of that best suits their environment. If that contradicts one of our social theories, it is something that animals do not care. Each species has its own social behavior and coexistence. Thus, we find groups monogamous or promiscuous, peaceful or aggressive, patriarchal or matriarchal, animals that jealously guard their young and animals that abandon or even kill them, species that are courting your partner and others who violate (or be eat it during intercourse).
The human being, to develop the capacity for abstract thought, has sought to explain its existence as a being and has invented all sorts of intricate and beautiful ontological mythologies. Our racist attitudes are manifestations of our culture and, as such, are unconscious. We do ...
