Relationship between Theory and Practice

To explain the relationships that exist between theory and practice, it is vital to understand the general concepts, such as the practice and theory. Practice is any structured mental activity as well as practical (material), which includes the application of knowledge and skills, beliefs, anticipation, hypotheses, models, imaginative, etc (Wacker, 1998). A theory is an idea and hypothesis which explains something and practice is an exercise and application of any task or theory or in other words translation of an idea into action is called practice. "Theory" and "practice" seem to be the facts, clearly separated. Between them there is the ratio indicating the points in common and the need for mutual complementarily. Often repeated in the claim made by the functioning almost as a slogan that "the practice poses a problem," and "theory attempts to solve" that "puts hypothesis theory" and "practice of seeking their confirmation." They need each other and rely on each other. (Harlow, 2010) Theory without practice is empty while practice without theory is blind.

The main area of the relationship of theory and practice is an aspect of communication, as a necessary condition for cooperation between the two dimensions of the educational reality. There is a principle of combining theory with practice (Gelso, 2006). It is based on the organization of the educational process, in which the merger is used extensively as possible. It brings many benefits, such as:

The tension between theory and practice is similar to that between the individual and the company or between what we do and the one thing we should do. There is a close relationship between theory and practice, and that there should be consistency between the two (Silvestri, 2007). The concept of "theory" has different connotations, from scientific interpretations ("logically connected set of hypotheses and verified"), to broader meanings ("a way of seeing objects and information"). However, in regard to the same theoretical activities, the theory can have at least two different meanings:

may refer to actual products of theoretical research, presenting general principles, laws or explanations,

may refer to the frame of thought that structure and guide any distinctive theoretical activity.

Used in this second sense suggests that phrases like "sociological theory" or "anthropological theory" be ambiguous, to identify theoretical knowledge offered by those investigating in sociology or anthropology, with particular modes of thought and research that guide practices of those performing sociological or anthropological actions. Theories arising from activities such as sociology or anthropology are formally proven practical results that are guided by theories that indicate how to proceed with those involved in such practices (Pesonen et al, 2009). The practices employed in a theoretical activity can be seen as incompatible with its principles and values, the whole conceptual structure that underlies conventional methods is questioned and rejected.
