Torch planners' and operational commanders' use of signals intelligence served as a model for future Allied operations. Signals intelligence provided insight into the highest levels of Axis leadership decision making and guided Anglo-American military operational decisions in the first successful marriage of combined operations with theater operational deception. The Torch example shows that an intimate intelligence/operations relationship can be a key to operational success (Hinsley, 2001).
