Development of Simulation in Java to Evaluate the Quality of Service Routing In Mobile Networks While Using Ad-Hoc Robots

Introduction

Mobile Ad-Hoc Network (MANET) is the latest technological advancement that has revolutionized the mode of communications over distances. It is a collection of self-configured mobile nodes connected to each other through wireless links to form a random topology. MANETs are the real-time applications that have been responsible for a massive growth in wireless communication systems. The applications find extensive use in multimedia teleconferences, construction site, network residence and military conflicts (Ying, Yang, Srikant, 2008, 4132-43). The Quality of Service (QoS) of MANETs is mainly not guaranteed because mobiles have a dynamic and ever-changing ad hoc environment. The mobility and routing mechanism have to be effective in carrying the message forward. This is the only manner in which we can ensure a suitable quality of service in case of mobile networks' routing (Carlo, 1999, 33-40).

The QoS of mobile networks require evaluations for finding a routing protocol and mobility model that is adapted according to the features of the application. This requires some performance metrics that can guarantee a quality of Service (QoS) for these networks. These metrics include throughput, the end-to-end delay, jitter etc. Much research has been carried out on the subject in order to evaluate the performance of MANETs including evaluation for performance of MANETs, analysis of performance of protocols, and the overall effect of mobility models on Ad-Hoc Networks. This paper attempts to study different aspects involved in the evaluation of quality of service routing in mobile networks while using ad hoc robots. It begins with a systematic layout in which the theory about QoS is presented through a review of relevant literature, along with a detailed discussion of QoS routing in mobile networks. It then succeeds with the investigation of usability and effectiveness of QoS in networks and the identification of justified techniques for quantifying the level of quality in networks (Abolhasam, Wysocki, Dutkiewicz, 2004, 85-97). We will also study about the use of simulation to study how traffic types affect the performance of network activities and in the end, will present an analysis for our findings and results. The paper will end with a conclusion summarizing the overall content of the study along with suggestions for future improvement.
