Introduction

One of the challenging issues that are debatable in the intergovernmental context of education of United States is the development of a national educational curriculum. Being the staff members of a public interest group, I believe that the nation will be under the burden of great issues if the national curriculum is being adopted in the country.

Position Statement

The development of a national curriculum will be leading to the closure of the doors for innovation of the educational system of our country. The development of the challenging different nature of tests, assessments and curricula usually enable to meet up the challenges that might be faced by them in the life ahead.

Background Paragraph

In the year 2000, an announcement was made by President George Bush in which an initiation of a framework that had given origin to the national achievement tests and a voluntary set of national tests that will be given by the students in five different subject areas at the time of studying in 4th, 8th and 12th grades (Smith, O'day, & Cohen, 1991). The issue created a great confusion in terms of whether the curriculum will be following a rigid uniform structure or will provide at some points a free hand to the teachers and professors to come up with the innovative concepts and make them a part of the course content. United States being marked as a diverse nation will face challenge if it has opted for a national curriculum because a balance will be needed to be maintained between the national direction and local option.

Being a representative of a public group, a general belief is held by all the staff members that being a citizen of United States, equal rights must be enjoyed by all the students whether they live in Mississippi or Texas. The curricula should also be designed before the designing of the assessments, but the experience being faced as a member of the public sector reveals the fact that one size or one curriculum could not fits all.
