Introduction

The public health functioning in California is decentralized, occupied with local health department and state agencies. Legislation was endorsed in 2006, in order to create CDPH. Before its establishment, functions concerned with public health were undertaken under the authority of CDHS. Responsibility of public health at the state level remains with State and Consumer Services Agency, and Environmental Protection Agency.
