Introduction

The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, English, DSM) American Psychiatric Association includes a classification of mental disorders and provides clear descriptions of diagnostic categories, so doctors and researchers, health sciences to diagnose, monitor and information to exchange and discuss various mental disorders. The current edition is the fourth (DSM-IV-TR) revised text. It has a research agenda for the publication of DSM-V, which, like the DSM-IV, causing controversy among professionals regarding the diagnostic use. Publication is planned for May 2013. WHO recommends the use of the international system called the ICD-10, an acronym for the International Classification of Diseases, tenth edition, which is widely spread throughout the world (APA, 2000).

The DSM is derived from empirical data and a descriptive methodology with the aim of improving communication between doctors in different directions, and clinical researchers in general, different. In this article we discuss the implications of food, drugs, sex / gender / sexual, and personality disorders and relate it to the DSM-VI model. It is therefore important to develop an understanding of the personality matrix and the different perspectives are essential.

Definition according to DSM-IV

A personality disorder is a permanent and inflexible pattern of inner experience and behavior that contribute to the expectations of the culture of the individual.
