Psychological Disorders Writing Assignment

Introduction

The movie I chose to watch was Mr. Brooks, which was released in 2007. It was a thriller film and portrayed the central character of Mr. Brooks as having a split personality, with the name of Marshall. That split personality, or alter-ego as it is psychologically called, had an obsession of killing. Those are the psychological disorders depicted in this film - the dissociative identity disorder, and the obsessive-compulsive disorder. The man had the obsession to kill and felt a rage, every time he did. Mr. Brooks was apparently a successful businessman, had a wife and a daughter as his family, and was quite well-composed. No one knew of his split personality up until during one of his killings, he killed a couple who were making out and left a loophole. That was the work of Brooks, who had gotten tired of his obsession and wanted to quit but had no control over it. Later, when he decides to give up, he gets blackmailed into killing again by someone who had framed him during that couple's murder. His alter-ego, Marshall, also brings to him the fear that his daughter has the same problem, and could kill her own father for the sakes of taking over his business.

For the course of this assignment, we shall focus only on the main psychological disorder portrayed in this film, the dissociative personality disorder.
