CHAPTER 01: INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

It is widely assumed that, people behave the way they like to behave, but in reality the physical environment plays a significant role on the behaviour of people. Moreover, the topic of relationship of physical environment and the behaviour of human being has long been the topic of interest, and it is also accepted that manipulation of physical environment can help in achieving the desired behavioural and physical results. Yet, researches on eliminating stress form the work environment do not focus upon changing the physical environment of work spaces. Contemporary literature only focuses upon certain psychosocial influences that negatively impacts upon the productivity and efficiency of workers. However, some studies of stress at work spaces have also included the effect of physical environment on workers' efficiency. The authors and theorists have studied the influence of physical environment on the work performance of employees in these studies. Hence, there is also strong evidence that physical environment of work spaces has a positive effect on the job performance of workers. Therefore, this paper asserts that there is a strong impact of physical environment and design of work spaces on improving the efficiency and morale of workers.

Purpose of the Study

The major purpose of the paper is to explore how the physical environment effect, help and change efficiency with in work spaces. Additionally, the paper will also identify the impact of design, of the work space, on building the morale of worker and increasing worker efficiency and productivity. Therefore, the results of the study will help in finding ways to create a strong relationship between physical work environment and worker efficiency and productivity, which in turn, will help in mitigating low levels of morale, productivity and efficiency at work.

Significance of the Study

There could be various significant factors that help in enhancing the efficiency, morale and productivity of workers, at work spaces. However, the results of this study are of great significance as it helps in understanding the relationship between physical work environment, worker efficiency and productivity of the workers. Moreover, identifying this relationship and its positive impact will help in improving the overall efficiency at organisational level. Furthermore, the study would also highlight concerns where further research is required in order to address these issues to ensure the overall success for the organisation and society, as a whole.

Aims and Objectives
