Abstract

The issue of quality in projects has received a widespread attention from the project management and research circles. No doubt, it is the quality that makes a product successful and also identifies any potential factors in relation with its failure. Project management, on the other hand, is way to not only initiate but also manage project with positive and cost-based outcomes. However, the role of quality is critical in this type of management. This paper discusses the importance of quality in project management and how it is managed in projects.

Introduction

Today's rapidly changing technological and business environment has given multiple benefits to businesses and changed the way of managing projects (Cleland & Roland, 2007). There is no doubt about the fact that modern way of project and quality management has allowed businesses to improve their ability to make decisions, plan their projects in an efficient way and control projects leading it towards the progress of meeting goals. Project management includes planning a project, implementing, controlling and identifying tasks and goals which are to be achieved (Cleland & Roland, 2007). The role of quality in projects cannot be avoided as every business in today's competitive marketplace is striving to produce high quality products and service for customers.

In fact, Quality is one of the most important aspects of any product or service in a business. The term 'quality' has a pragmatic interpretation that might refer to the superiority or inferiority of an object or anything (Rose, 2005). This condition is, in total, perceptual, conditioned and is subjective regarding its interpretation and understanding by different people. There many are a special focus on the quality specification and comparison of the particular product with its rivals in the marketplace. The concept of quality measures the conformance of products to a certain degree of customer satisfaction and to their level of expectation (Milakovich, 1991). This paper aims to discuss the issue of quality management in the context of project management.

Discussion

The concept of quality can acquire multiple definitions and interpretations, as everything depends on the level of customer satisfaction or compliance. However, quality is the result of strenuous effort, work effectively to meet consumer desire (Besterfield, 2012). In addition, the organizations are undergoing transformational changes by developing its processes and business practices. The organizational development incorporates the quality management that is considered important for the productivity and growth of the organization (Geotsch & Davis, 2009). Quality management means the quality of the instrument, processes, and system that is maintained and sustained by incorporating the total quality management that follows the standards of ISO 9000. The organizations that are going through the phase of development, plan and implement the quality plans to maintain the quality and produce quality output (Besterfield, 2012).
