Main aim of the project

The aim of the project is to develop the performance evaluation and grading system. This system will be named as MFAT which stands for Major Field Achievement Test. The system will be beneficial for the academic institution to grade their students through an automatic grading system.

Project objectives

There are two main objectives of the project:

To offer an efficient and effective system to grade the students.

To generate students' reports on the basis of their respective grades.

These both will allow an automated process for the performance evaluation and grading of the students which will result in the performance improvement at the end. If properly implemented, this system can change the grading criteria in the academic situations from manual to fully system generated.

Project description

The model which is used for the improvement and appraisal of performance for the organizations is called CMMI. The Institute of Software Engineering is responsible for its development. CMMI is basically used for the improvement efforts and performance appraisal of the development institutions globally. Its abbreviation is “Capability Maturity Model Integration”. This model is well known for institutional development at five major levels, which are:

Managed method

Defined procedure

Quantitatively controlled

Optimization process

The fifth level i.e. optimization process facilitates a development institution to evaluate its current performance with respect to the set of defined standards. The results of the evaluation process are than used for the improvement of the process. This may be applied for an academic purpose or professional purpose in some industrial organization etc (Maner, 2001, 39).

This project is primarily designed for the purpose of academic use by the universities. This will provide a state of the art educational system to test the educational performance of the students. The test for the students would rely on the questions related to multiple choices which will cover up whole contents of the course (Maner, 2001, 39).

The proposed project will be designed to use on a personal computer through two sources which are; Visual Interface or V.I and database management system by Microsoft Access. There are four main elements covered by the project. These functions consist of:

System log in

To import the test answers

To grade the students

To print the reports on demand.

The concerned department will access the MFAT to determine the performance of the students and to grade them according to their performances. Moreover, such type of working module will be provided by this project which will not only allow the performance rating of the students but also to assist the department to improve the students' performance.

This project is obviously a great opportunity to experience the ups and downs of the real software development project. Gathering and presenting the knowledge during the course developed a thorough understanding of the software development process which will definitely help out in the coming stages.
