Abstract

In this study we try to explore the concept of “Project Management” in a holistic context. The main focus of the research is on project management issues in Basketball Arena. The research also analyzes many aspects of project management to highlight different issues of Basketball Arena. Finally the research describes various factors, responsible for project management and tries to describe the overall issues of Basketball Arena in terms of project management.

Introduction

Project management is always based on a basic philosophy learned mostly from experience, and the components of such philosophy have universal validity for all projects. It is up to the organization as how it applies them intelligently to the project. Work is the ethical, efficient, and effective application of energy to productive ends. Best Project management practices is the search for the most ethical, efficient, and effective means for directing energy to productive ends. In this connection, this study is going to identify issues in Basketball Arena in terms of project management (David, Gareis, 2006, p. 39).

Description of the Project

The North Greenwhich arena is located in the centre of the O2 in South East London and it will host the Basketball finals for the London Olympics 2012.  Over 20,000 spectators are coming to watch this sporting event so accommodation will be in short supply. Eventful Stays has a selection of self catering accommodation close by to this venue or within easy reach by London Transport. Basketball arena is an important venue for London Olympics 2012 which is located in the north part of Olympic park (David, Gareis, 2006, p. 39). There will be seven events which will be conducted in Basketball arena. Events in Basketball arena include Basketball, Wheelchair Basketball, Wheelchair Rugby and Handball. Construction of Basketball Arena started in March 2010 and completed its final touch on June 2011 and now Basketball Arena is now ready set to host some events related to Basketball, Wheelchair Basketball, Wheelchair Rugby and Handball events. 

Basket ball and finals of handball tournaments will be held in the same venue and it takes 22 hours to convert the basketball court to hand ball court during the Olympic Games.
