Part 1

Introduction

The progressive era has always been an important object for historical analysis. The progressive era emerged in late 19th century and lasted until 1917 which brought new ideas and reforms that even persist till yet. In this paper two major turning points in that era and their economical, social, cultural and political impacts are evaluated.

Discussion

The birth of the American oil industry in 1901 is one of the most important points in the progressive era. This oil industry has its root in Texas where the drilling of Sprindletop set the foundation for the evolution of nation's oil sector (Paleontological Research Institution, n.d.). This development of the oil industry impacted the social, cultural, economic and cultural life of America. It contributed to the rapid evolution of political and economic power of U.S but it also became one of the great employers in labor market of the country (Texas State Historical Association, 2012).

On the other hand, creation of NAACP is another turning point in the establishment or racial attitudes and values in America. It is also stated in NAACP (2012) that the mission of the organization is to ensure the educational, political, economic and political equality of all people for eliminating the racial discrimination, just like many years ago. During the progressive era, the racial and women's rights were consistently ignored, but the creation of NAACP set the basis for bringing advancement in human rights protection and equality (Sage, 2010).

Conclusion

Establishment of NAACP and the birth of the oil industry are considered to be two of the major points of Progressive era. The oil industry supports and generates million of jobs in other industries as well and also is one of the largest buyers of goods and services. While NAACP, changed the racial culture of the country by protecting the vulnerable population from prejudice and strengthening the law enforcement against hate crimes along with promoting greater tolerance towards difference and diversity (NAACP, 2012).

Introduction

By the end of the 19th century, America was facing number of problems that need to be addressed immediately. It was facing social and economic injustice, along with the war between capital and labor (Sage, 2010). Progressivism brought changes at public, federal, state and private level. It ensured less corruption, public safety, efficiency, social justice and reforms to bring equality without considering gender, race or social background. This paper discusses the suffrage of women and the corporate legislations. It also reviews the importance of Spanish-American war, involvement of government in economy during the Roaring twenties.
