Introduction

The nursing is considered as one of the most respectable professional all over the world and millions of people have been associated with this field in every region. The American laws abs policies regarding nursing has been consistently changing due to advancement in the technologies therefore, it is essential to understand licensing requirements and standards of nursing in America. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate different standards and registered nursing practices in the Washington State, which will be useful for understanding professional licensing requirements in this state.

Scope of Practice

The scope of the practice in the health care has been defined as the performance of the health worker during their employment. Therefore, the nursing scope of practice covers different activities of nursing and healthcare that nurses perform in the overall environment where they work. In the scope of practice, the various elements of nursing practices are mutually shared with the health professionals as this link improves the understanding of roles and duties that they have to perform in the health care division. The nurses and nursing is important because they communicates and distributes the proper meaning of roles that nurses perform to different communities, employers and the Government (NSW, 2009, p.1).

Scope of Practice for Nursing

There is a single scope of practice in the professional nursing in which there is a complete range of nursing activities. The scope of practice for an individual nurse refers to the education of the nurse and the authorization to perform nursing tasks in different nursing departments. The role and responsibility of nurse in the scope of practice is entirely dependent on the experience, education, role and background of their practice. The different knowledge, skills, attributes, and judgments are identified by the national competency standards for nurses and nursing practitioners and they have highlighted these factors in accordance with the NP, EN and RN for making entry to the practice. Being professional, registered and licensed nurses, it is their duty to access and analyze their own capabilities and scope of practice for providing better services to the patients.

It is important to understand that the nursing role is continuously changing and building in response to the health needs of the people, improvement in the knowledge of nursing and transformation in the health care system. It indicates that it is the need of the nurses to update them on regular basis so that need of the patients can be fulfilled in an organized manner. This means that nursing is not a set of tasks or procedure that can be followed every time instead, it is kind of practice that must be defined for the development of practice and it should always be up to date.
