The Triangle Fire tragically showed these inadequacies. Groups for example the International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union (ILGWU) and the Womens' Trade Union League (WTUL) battled for better employed situation and shielding legislation. Fire inspections and precautions were woefully insufficient at the time. (Naden 1971)
