One in 10 teens say they have abused prescription medicines to get high and double, or one in five teenagers admit having abused a prescription medication, for the same purpose. Prescription drugs are the most abused pain relievers.

A review of the dangers of the prescription drugs that it can be as addictive and harmful as drugs sold on the street. Consumption of high doses may lower the breathing rate and affect the heartbeat. Prescription drugs or mixing them with other medicines or drugs can be deadly.

It is recommended that parents talk to their sons and daughters about the dangers of abusing prescription drugs, i.e. drugs that are only available by prescription from your doctor. Many teenagers get prescription of their own relatives or friends, with or without knowledge of who received the drug for some treatment. Young people think they are safe just because a physician prescribed. Therefore, it is believed that these drugs help you get benefits such as feeling better, work better, lose weight or have a better school performance. The drugs most used by adolescents who abuse prescription drugs include painkillers (Vicodin, OxyContin, Percocet, codeine), sedatives (Valium, Xanax, Ambien, Mebaral, Nembu- such) and stimulants (Ritalin, Adderall).
