Introduction

Power, deviance and social conduct go hand in hand in a society. Power in similar context can be defined as the authority or influence of an individual. Deviance of an individual is his social, sexual and ethical believes and practices very different that the usual. Whereas the social conduct of an individual in a society can include a huge variety of acts he commits while living amongst other fellow beings. These three acts are some way or the other affecting each other. Hence psychologists around the world conduct experiments to know the secret recipe of an ideal and peaceful society.

Theories of social control

Human beings are designed in such a way that they cannot remain alone and isolated for a longer period. Hence, we exercise the concept of socialization daily. Where socialization is an endless process of engaging oneself in mundane activities and maintaining ties with others living around us. Believing in ones morals and ethics and practicing for the good of others is another aspect of socialisation. According to criminology believes, socialization is directly proportional to stability in a society. Humans are unpredictable, flexible and impulsive creatures. They have the ability to surprise in a number of ways, good or unpleasant (Horwitz, 2007). Therefore, psychologists believe that it is these relationships, ethics and norms that keep humans away from law-breaking, unhealthy and dangerous behavior. Moreover, these commitments to fellow beings that encourage humans to live as responsible and as peacefully as possible.

Theories of deviance

Theory of deviance is basically the contrast of the theory of social control. It involves citizen disturbing the peace and displaying extreme behavior. The behavior though may range of smallest of protests on any street to violent behaviors like hurting a fellow human or damaging public property. But deviance has a very broad perspective in general. However, the common factor amongst the entire example is the differentiating factor that separates individuals form a few or a few people from a huge number of people (Anleu, 2005).

Ways in which concepts of normality and deviance are socially constructed

Normality means behavior portrayed by an individual in accordance with the normal or usual trends and ethics followed by the majority. Hence, any act or trend otherwise is prone to be criticized by the society and people. Therefore, there are no doubts that the social values of any place decide and define normal and deviance behavior. The societal and ethical values of every country differ and vary all the time on the basis of its history, background, laws and general traditions. Therefore, deviance and normality are relative concepts. So different regions will view these concepts with a different approach (Traub, 1999).
