Introduction

This paper intends to explore about the situation 'Baker' is facing. Baker has been assigned a task to research the literature for a possible solution to a major operational problem to his employer. Baker spends many weeks searching the literature and finds a common solution theme for similar problems at various companies in various industries. Baker is somewhat dubious that the commonly reported solution would really work for his employer. He has been thinking and has a thought about a different solution that has never been tried before. He must report to the Board of Directors in three days. They are a no nonsense Board and expect results. The operational problem must be solved. This paper will explore what Baker must do to deal with this situation.

Today's business environment is full of operational problems which need to be addressed and resolved on a regular basis. Presence of such operational problems might lead to business losses, dissatisfaction of clients and therefore low motivational levels of employees. The process of problem solving must be conducted in an effective manner by the managers. Various new tools and techniques must be used in order to enhance the problem solving process. In relation with the Baker's problem, there are various things which Baker must consider to make sure his plan works.

Baker must first develop a plan of action which he can present to the Board of Directors. Baker must be sure about the benefits of the solution he has thought of. In order to communicate the benefits to the Board of Directors, Baker will have to do an immense research regarding the benefits of his solution so that he becomes confident about proposing what he has thought of. Before presenting a different solution that has never been tried to the Board of Directors, Baker needs to clear his confusions regarding the viability of his proposal. Board of Directors must get satisfied with the Baker's proposal with the confidence that this proposal will help in solving the operational problem. There are several important things which Baker must consider and properly work on before presenting his proposal to the Board of Directors.
