Introduction

Social welfare is a process through which people; communities take adequate measured to provide certain opportunities to people in the society. It's not about the standard of living of people but it is more concerned with the quality of life provided to people of a society.

On the other hand, social policy is a set of laws and regulations that affect the living conditions of the people in a country or a society. Social policy is described as a public policy and practice in the areas of health care, human services, criminal justice and education.

Social welfare and social policy

Social welfare policy deals with allocating goods, services and resources to the people in the society. It is a process of formal and consistent ordering of human matters. This policy helps to meet the basic need of the people such as food, clothes, education labor and health.

On the other hand social policy is a broader perspective. Social policy endeavors to increase and improve the quality of life of humans. It provides resources to those people who are unable to earn and are unable to meet their basic needs. It is a broader term not only encompassing social welfare but also activities that affects the social life. (Dean, 2006).

Methods of policy analysis

The two main methods that are used to analyze and examine policy are as follows.

Qualitative method

Qualitative methods consist of case studies, analysis of documents and interviews. Many different types of qualitative data can be used to analyze the quantities data. The qualitative method requires a careful and detailed analysis of the details. This process usually involves reading notes repeatedly to uncover patterns and the relationship between the data and the theories. This method is used to analyze the policy operations and the experiences and perceptions of the people.

Quantities method

The quantitative method involves the use of statistical techniques, forecasting methods, analysis of regression and variance and cost benefit analysis. This method requires in depth knowledge of statistics and research design to analyze and examine the pros and cons of policies. Many scholars and researchers use quantitative methods to analyze and device policy because it is more precise and specific. The results drawn from quantitative methods are more accurate. (Wiemer, & Vining, 1989)
