In U.S and various other countries expressing genuine ideas are considered a property that is intellectual and it is often protected by the copyright laws, similarly as a piece of inventions and art are protected. Plagiarism is a serious academic crime that can expel a student from their school. If a person is not careful during writing, so the plagiarism can be committed by accident. It is considered an appropriation or theft of someone else's work without proper acknowledging; the material is often presented as it is their own.
